Teaching Procedure:
Step1. Before the class, check how many students can retell the main meaning about the text. Encourage the entire students t preview the new lesson and ask questions about the text.
Step2. Listen to the tape and answer the following questions:
1.Where did they show stamp collection?
2.Whose hobby did Brian enjoy best?
Step3. Read the text and check the answers. Read the text loudly.
Step4. Have a further discussion about the text: Did Jenny make any new friends? What is her new friend like? Encourage your students to imagine and to say something about him or her.
Step5. Come to “LET’S DO IT”.
Write a passage about someone you know who is a collector. Divide the class into several groups. Then let the students discuss their passages together. Do you think whose hobby is the most interesting? If you want to be a collector, what do you want to collect? Why?
Step6. Practice the using of the verb-ing.
Write the following sentences on the blackboard. Ask the students to sum the grammar by themselves.
Watching TV too much is bad for your eyes.
Her job is looking after babies.
Seeing is believing.
When a verb is taken as the subject, verb-ing is used. Verb-ing can be used as predicative. Ask the students to write a few sentences including verb-ing.
Step7.1. Finish off the activity book.
3.Go on the next reading in the student book.
