appease的基本意思是“平息”,指平息怒氣、平息紛爭等或以滿足對方要求等讓步方式來撫慰某人,使其停止做某事。引申可指緩解饑渴,使人的胃口或欲望等得到滿足等。
appease只用作及物動詞,后可接名詞或代詞作賓語; appease可用于被動結構。
