Monday的基本意思是“星期一”,指一周之中,位于星期日之后的那一天。
表示“在星期一”時(shí)通常用介詞on,在非正式語體中,尤其是美式英語中,常可省去介詞on,直接用Monday作時(shí)間狀語; 當(dāng)Monday前有next, last, this, that, some, every等修飾語時(shí),前面也不用介詞on。
在Monday后有next, last等修飾語(也稱“后置定語”)時(shí),尤其在英式英語中,通常不省略介詞on;而在美式英語和非正式文體中,介詞on則可有可無。
Monday在僅指日歷中周期性的日期時(shí),通常不用冠詞,但表示某指定的日期時(shí)可加冠詞a或the。Monday在與冠詞連用作時(shí)間狀語時(shí)總是要與介詞搭配。
Monday的復(fù)數(shù)形式可表示“每星期一”。
Monday來自Day of the Moon(月亮日),可縮寫成Mon.。
中國人習(xí)慣把Monday看作一周的第一天,英國人卻把Sunday看作一周的第一天,而把Monday看作一周的第二天。
