When I met him, I had a lot of anger inside of me. I've lived my whole life in Spanish Harlem, but in my neighborhood, there are shoot-ups all the time. I know kids who have been shot or beaten up. I have friends who ended up in prison. I could have ended up that way, too, but Mr. Clark wouldn’t let that happen.
Mr. Clark worked long hours, making sure I did my work. My grades rose. In fact, the scores of our whole class rose. One day, he took our class to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and it was the first time some kids had ever been out of Harlem. Before the movie, he treated us to the McDonald's and taught us not to talk with our mouths full. We did not want to let him down.
Mr. Clark was selected as Disney's 2007 Teacher of the Year. He said he would draw three names out of a hat; those students would go with him to Los Angeles to get the award. But when the time came to draw names, Mr. Clark said,“You're all going.”
On graduation day, there were a lot of tears. We didn't want his class to end. In 2008, he moved to Atlanta, but he always kept in touch. He started giving lectures about education, and wrote a bestselling book based on his classroom rules, The Essential 55. In 2010, Mr. Clark took some of us on a trip to South Africa to deliver school supplies and visit orphanages (孤兒院). It was the most amazing experience of my life. It's now my dream to one day start a group of women's clubs, helping people from all backgrounds.

The new iPhone 3G should please everyone. Its look and feel are only slightly improved, but a faster network loads Web pages more quickly, true GPS functionality allows it to easily find places nearby, and the new $199 price (down from $400) makes it an affordable luxury.
Before deciding whether to buy, however, make sure you can actually take advantage of the iPhone 3G's high-speed data network. 3G stands for third-generation, and 3G coverage enables you to make a phone call and surf the Web at the same time. That's great, if you live or work in a place where the 3G network of China Unicom is active. That's not so great in cities like Chengdu where China Unicom's cellular coverage is awful. As one of my colleagues, who bought the original iPhone, commented, “It's just a toy. You can't make phone calls on it, so I carry my Nokia with me all the time.”
The real fun begins when you tap on the icon called “App Store” and start browsing the hundreds of add-on applications that have been developed just for the iPhone. You'll find tons of games ( I like Plants VS Zombies, a free game developed by Popcap Games) and mobile versions of popular websites like Renren, Facebook, Taobao and Twitter. Most apps will cost you, but the vast majority are $9.99 or less. The apps work on the old iPhones too, but you'll enjoy them a lot more on the iPhone 3G because many of the programs, including Yelp (local business reviews), Whrrl (mobile social networking) and UrbanSpoon (restaurant reviews), use your exact location ? provided by the iPhone 3G's GPS chip ? to make recommendations. The apps also load much faster over the 3G network.
64. The new iPhone 3G has following features except that _______.
A. It looks and feels betterB. It has a faster network
C. It is easy to locate a placeD. It's too expensive for people to buy
65. Why do one of my colleagues carry Nokia with him all the time?
A. Because iPhone 3G is just a toy.
B. Because he prefers Nokia better.
C. Because China Unicom's cellular coverage is terrible there.
D. Because Nokia enables him make a phone call and surf the Web at the same time.
66. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?
A. App Store will offer you great fun.
B. Many apps have been developed for the iPhone.
C. Most apps are very expensive.
D. Renren, Facebook, Taobao and Twitter are popular websites.
67. From the passage we know that the attitude of the author toward iPhone 3G is _____.
A. doubtfulB. appreciativeC. againstD. unknown
(C)
The National Day holiday is a great opportunity to do something a little different. Many people use the National Day for a getaway, a short trip to leave the stress of their everyday lives behind and explore, learn, or relax.
Hotel Romance
Many hotels and resorts feature something special to start the getaway, such as champagne, flowers, or a fruit basket in the room on arrival. Getaway packages usually include a room with something special, a heart shaped bed, for example. Additional benefits could be room service meals or other private dining, plus tickets or discounts for local attractions.
Visit a Spa
Spa getaways can take place at a location that focuses only on spa services or at a hotel that offers a spa as one of its features. Some spas emphasize treatments fit for their geographic area or a local attraction. A spa in a grape growing region might provide grape juice masks, or a hotel near a hot spring could offer mineral baths. Most spas offer a range of massage, health and beauty treatments, so a spa getaway can be relaxing with other benefits.
Learn a Skill
The National Day holiday may not be enough time to become an expert at something new, but it provides a way for people to begin their explorations. Some organizations offer intensive courses that last five or six days. People with special interests can get away from their routines while learning such things as how to make beer, speak a new language, or take better photos.
Help Others
Some organizations cooperate with businesses to have accommodations and activities for short-term volunteers. Most volunteer vacations involve ecology friendly or charity activities. A volunteer getaway is a way to relieve stress and help others at the same time.
Stay in a National Park
For those who want to relax in a rural environment, a national park fits the bill. Most national parks provide camping areas for tents and trailers. Several have cabins within the parks available to rent. A getaway to a national park provides privacy, stress relief, and the time to get to know some important natural resources.
68. The underlined word “getaway” in the 1st passage most probably means .

69. It can be learned from the text that .
A. spas are offered in the tourist attractions all over the country

There were smiling children all the way. Clearly they knew at what time the train passed their homes and they made it their business to stand along the railway, wave to complete strangers and cheer them up as they rushed towards Penang. Often whole families stood outside their homes and waved and smiled as if those on the trains were their favorite relatives. This is the simple village people of Malaysia. I was moved.
I had always traveled to Malaysia by plane or car, so this was the first time I was on a train. I did not particularly relish the long train journey and had brought along a dozen newspapers and magazines to read and reread. I looked about the train. There was not one familiar face. I sighed and sat down to read my 21st Century Teens.
It was not long before the train was across the Causeway and in Malaysia. Johore Baru was just another city like Singapore, so I was tired of looking at the crowds of people as they hurried past. As we went beyond the city, I watched the straight rows of rubber trees and miles and miles of green. Then the first village came into sight. Immediately I came alive; I decided to wave back.
From then on my journey became interesting. I threw my magazines into the waste basket and decided to join in Malaysian life. Then everything came alive. The mountains seemed to speak to me. Even the trees were smiling. I stared at everything as if I was looking at it for the first time.
The day passed fast and I even forgot to have my lunch until I felt hungry. I looked at my watch and was surprised that it was 3:00 pm. Soon the train pulled up at Butterworth. I looked at the people all around me. They all looked beautiful. When my uncle arrived with a smile, I threw my arms around him to give him a warm hug. I had never done this before. He seemed surprised and then his weather-beaten face warmed up with a huge smile. We walked arm in arm to his car.
I looked forward to the return journey, by train.
76. The author expected the train trip to be_______.
A. adventurous B. pleasant C. exciting D. boring

A. The friendly country people.B. The mountains along the way.
C. The crowds of people in the streets.D. The simple lunch served on the train.
78. Which of the following can best take the place of the word “relish” in the second paragraph?
A. choose B. enjoy C. prepare for D. carry on
79. Where was the writer going?
A. Johore Baru. B. The Causeway. C. Butterworth. D. Singapore.
80. What can we learn from the story?
A. Comfort in traveling by train. B. Pleasure of living in the country.
C. Reading gives people happiness. D. Smiles brighten people up.

W: Oh it just changed, be 25, down that way on the right. Thanks.
(Text 3)

M: About 8 kilometers, but it doesn’t seem very far, there is much traffic along this road. It’s great to go by bike.
(Text 4)
W: Now, can we get the computers before Wednesday?
M: Well, it depends, if it is less than 10 kilometers, we can deliver them on Tuesday, but it is further away, it will be on Thursday. Where is your office?
W: Just around the corner.
(Text 5)
W: You can’t wear that, John. It’s black.
M: What’s wrong with a black shirt, everybody has a black shirt.
W: It doesn’t look like going to a party.
(Text 6)

W: OK, Tom. Have you worked here long?
M: Yes, over 20 years.
W: Wow that is a long time. Do you enjoy working here?
M: Well, yes. I suppose I took the job because err well the money is good, and it’s good place to work in, but to be honest, what I really enjoy is the chance to go abroad, just visiting other countries. That’s the best thing.

W: We offer them three choices: the end of March, the middle of April and the beginning of May, and choose the earliest one which is good actually with exams coming up in May.
M: Right. And how many are coming? Did you say about 12?
W: Yes, they said 12 at first, but changed to 10 this morning.
M: Good, we have 8 weeks to prepare, here are my suggestions. On the first day, a welcome party, then they can visit the schools in the district on the second and third days.
W: We’ve got to remember this group wants to look at how computers are being used in the classroom.
M: Exactly, so I want to ask Mr. Goodman to give them a talk on this on the afternoon of the third day.
W: That will fit in very nicely.
M: And on the last day, they would do some sightseeing, we could take them on the tour of London but many of them may have been there already, and Scotland will be too far away.
W: Why not take them for a walk along the coast, it should be interesting.
M: Good idea! Cathy I’m sure they’ll like it.
(Text 10)
W: There are many interesting stories about how a baby learns to say its first word. Now Mike, would you like to share your story with us?
M: OK, here’s my story, I was about 18 months old I think and I had just started to say my first word. Every time a truck went by, I would shout a word that sounded like a track, but to everyone else, it sounded nothing like it. My parents tried to correct me, but failed. Then, about three months later, we traveled to New York, as we were waiting for our plane at the airport. I looked out of a huge window, at that very moment I saw the largest truck in the world, I had to tell someone about this. I turned to my father who was standing next to about a thousand people waiting for the very flight and screamed “Track! Track!” My father tried hard to shut me up, but I was so excited, I kept screaming my special word. My poor mother decided she didn’t know this baby and then ran into the ladies room where she hid until I finally stopped. Well, I learned how to say truck correctly, and soon I was talking like a normal child. However, my parents will never forget the very first word I produced in my life.
